CAVERNA

“Caverna” is a mixed-media sculpture, intended as a light sculpture. The cavernous base has numerous openings through which light from a candle or other source inside can emanate. Light inside illuminates the exposed mesh wire and clay on the inside of the sculpture.

The body of the sculpture of clay is constructed over wire. Deep and shallow cracks are visible throughout the base, adding texture to the smooth, glossy finish.

The wire is left visible on the top half of the sculpture, and molded to form the bust of a woman. Rose-gold thin wire hangs freely from wire-molded nipples, animating this element of the sculpture upon touch.

MATERIALS

Silver moldable wire, silver mesh wire, rose-gold thin wire, grey air-dry clay, red air-dry clay, acrylic paint, mod podge gloss sealant.
